Trouble getting varnish to forwards on to SSL on port 443

varnish does not implement ssl (on purpose) you can tunnel ssl with
other reverse proxies (stud, stunnel, nginx, lighttpd, even apache).

if the proxy listening on port 443 does not forward the request to
varnish, look for mistakes in the configuration of the proxy.
