how can I read old varnish logs?

Yes, that worked. I am sorry for the confusion but, yes, it seems that 
my modified logrotate configuration broke the log:

 > /var/log/varnish/varnish.log {
 >     compress
 >     compresscmd /bin/gzip
 >     uncompresscmd /bin/gunzip
 >     compressext gz
 >     dateext
 >     dateformat .%Y-%m-%d.
 >     daily
 >     rotate 7
 >     ifempty
 >     missingok
 >     copytruncate
 > }


Will fix that. Thanks for your time.
