 If you are running in 32bit mode and using a 2GB storage file, then there
 is very little virtual addressing room left for varnish to operate in.

 It sounds to me like your system in general are not dimensioned for the
 load you are trying to put on it.

 Switching to 64bit OS on the same hardware may solve the problem.
