 If no caching instructions are provided by the backend, Varnish will
 generally use the default TTL as cache period, under the general
 assumption that it is there to offload the backend.

 In this case, the Expires header must have come from the backend, but
 since you have not provided the log for the xid that put this into the
 cache, I can't diagnose it any closer.

 Ticket 277 may be relevant.
