 Regarding this concern of a better implementation on how to clean the
 timeout(ed) sockets, this ticket treats and implements the definitely
 (submitted and accepted) version of acceptor/waiter for Linux boxes using
 epoll:

 I have tried some other approaches, like one running a separated thread
 for cleaning timeout(ed) sockets, but this one has shown little to no
 improvement compared to #492, and presented itself running into race
 conditions.
