Comment(by tgr):

 It seems "banner" is not affected and doesn't affect anything itself - I
 can use it several times and I always get proper output (i.e. the banner).
 When I try another command after "banner", the last command given before
 "banner" is repeated. Only commands that go to the child are affected.

 I don't think it depends on the size. Commands with short output get
 repeated too.
