 I've realized that I've added code specific to the regexp-matching library
 used outside vre.c, so to wrap all of this, I should probably move more of
 what is in VRT_r_pmatch and VRT_re_match now into vre.c.

 I'll wait a little if more feedback arrives and, if this needs to be
 reworked again, change this too.
