Comment:

 You have told Varnish to use 28GB malloc storage, but appearantly your
 system ran out of memory before that limit was hit.

 Check the ulimits, they may be lower than 28GB, and if you do not have at
 least 28GB RAM, also check that your swapspace is correctly configured.

 You may also consider using -sfile instead.
