 I ran into the same problem while running Varnish 2.1.3 on a 32bit system
 with default sess_workspace, but a total cache size of 1536M.

 The cookie payload wasn't really that massive in this case:

 Maybe the default sess_workspace could be larger. But I understand that
 the 32bit / >1G cache size config is not recommended.
