 I have pondered this issue, and it will not be fixed, quite the contrary.

 The CLI::stats command was added as a quick hack back in the 1.x days and
 it will now be removed before the 3.0 release.

 This is consistent with the fact that we do not provide access the the log
 data from CLI either.

 The CLI is not designed for subscribing to stats, it is single-threaded
 and any TCP blocking trying to deliver stats will prevent any other CLI
 connection from getting anything done.

 The correct way to access stats in Varnish, is to access the shared
 memory, either using varnishstats or using the libvarnishapi functions.
