 This is, as the log says, because the child is not responding to the
 manager.

 Please post the parameters and/or startup arguments for Varnish, and
 describe the storage you use. Varnishstat -1 would also be useful, as
 would any information on load (both request-wise and cpu/IO-wise) be.
