 I deleted, unzipped a fresh copy, installed, and it's now writing to the
 correct var directory.

 I had been having a little trouble getting it to compile with pcre, maybe
 it was a quirk there, or maybe I changed the prefix directory between
 install attempts, and it didn't like that?
