 Thanks for the answer! We'll try to increase sess_workspace.

 Just one other question, shouldn't Varnish throw an error if it can't
 allocate enough memory?
 Returning a wrong value seems a dangerous thing to do, and it makes
 debugging the problem quite complicated :/
