 Hi,

 Thank you for reporting this. There does seem to be some discrepancies
 with the timing reported on ESI subrequests. This is in the process of
 being reworked for the next major Varnish release, and there will be fixes
 from that work tricking in to 3.0 as a result. I will leave this ticket
 open, and close once the fix is merged.
