 Credits go to fgs at IRC
 problem was caused by yum protectbase plugin and the varnish-3.0.4 package
 in my own repository.

 adding protect=1 to the varnish repository configuration fixed the
 problem.

 Maybe add a notice to this page in case someone else did the same thing:
 https://www.varnish-cache.org/installation/redhat

 Sorry, It was my local problem after all.
