 Can you use varnishlog -g request please and also include the full
 vcl_recv?

 Also in your VCL you are matching against "SESS[a-z0-9]+" which only
 covers numbers and lowercase characters after SESS.  Are you sure the
 cookie won't have any uppercase characters on it?
