Comment:

 Thanks for the response. We found something like this in the log around
 the same time as the backend server receive the request

    16 SessionOpen  c 10.0.0.179 51226 :80
    16 SessionClose c pipe

 Our vcl doesn't have any return pipe; and the default vcl only does it if
 the request method is not standard. I'm not sure what could be the cause
 of this.
