I was thinking I would test 8080 first as it's a working server :-|
Are you saying that 0.0.0.0 is incorrect in
$ sudo varnishd -f /etc/varnish/default.vcl -s malloc,1G -T 127.0.0.1:2000
 -a 0.0.0.0:8080
?
