Lifting a ban

Hi,

When I issue a ban in varnishadm to invalidate a series of urls in the cache, when will this ban be lifted? Can I cancel it after a few hours or will it automatically expire at some point?

I fear that over time I will accumulate quite a large list of bans, thus slowing Varnish down.
