Sporadic 503 errors with 3.0.2

backend_conn          12413302        66.44 Backend conn. success
backend_unhealthy            0         0.00 Backend conn. not attempted
backend_busy                 0         0.00 Backend conn. too many
backend_fail              4917         0.03 Backend conn. failures

It looks like backend_fail numbers line up with what I'm seeing.  Any
suggestions on figuring out what is failing?
