Purge command failed any hint ?

I have varnish 3 ..

got this

varnishadm -T 127.0.0.1:6082 purge req.url == "/" -S /etc/varnish/secret
Unknown request.
Type 'help' for more info.

Command failed with error code 101


in help purge command is not there

I tried the following
