Dramatic memory use increase on varnish upgrade

The instances with constant memory use are on Linux 3.2. All the
misbehaving instances have been on Linux 3.19.

Any ideas how to mitigate this or any Linux kernel configuration I could
change? Any ideas what kernel behavior changes could be responsible for
