Comment:

 Make sure you give the log programs the same -n argument as you give
 varnishd.

 If the _.vsl file is not there, then varnishd has not been started and run
 with the -n argument you are using.

 This kind of problem is usually better handled in the mailing lists or IRC
 channel, we only use tickets for bugs in the code.
