"keep" has evolved through a few name changes since we first started
working on IMS, originally it was "conditional_ttl", which was
considered much too long, and then "cond_ttl", which was still too long.

I certainly see the value of names that describe themselves well, at the
price of length (after all, I've spent a lot of time as a Java
developer). But the Unix-y culture around Varnish tends to favor much
shorter names, at the price of being more opaque. The long names in Java
are not much of a problem when you're using an IDE with code completion.
No such luck if you're hacking VCL in vi.
