Please paste full config. Varnish concludes that your backend is down after
0.000000 seconds, so either it times out, or there's something it doesn't like
the responses your backend sends.
I'm thinking it may be the latter, so a packet dump of a probe would be nice,
or perhaps just a hex dump of an http request matching the probe.

While you were doing a request? If so, then your request is not reaching
varnish. Check netstat and firewalls.
